Osirion, "tomb of Osiris" — the construction of giant monoliths, megalithic building at 8-17 meters below the level of the temple adjacent to the Western wall of the temple of SETI I at Abydos. It is as if an integral part of the funerary complex of SETI I, but its style is quite similar to the surrounding buildings of the XVIII dynasty. Osirion was discovered by archaeologists Flinders Petrie and Margaret Murray who were excavating at this place in 1902-1903. From sand Osirion was cleared only in 1914, as the floor level of Osirion is located approximately 8 metres below the temple of SETI. Professor Neville from the Research Fund of Egypt, clearing the complex, believed that Osirion is one of the most ancient buildings of Egypt. But after 20-ies of XX century on its walls were found several inscriptions in the name of SETI I, this building was declared a building of this Pharaoh.
Still, there is disagreement about who exactly built Osirion and what is its age. For some unknown reason he is several meters below adjacent buildings Network I. Osirion erected in the technique of the so-called megalithic masonry. All the building is built of huge monolithic blocks of granite. The stone is carefully machined blocks fitted to each other without the slightest gap. This technique of construction has nothing to do with that which was used in the construction of the mortuary temple of SETI I. Due to the fact that Osirion naturally filled with water, it makes it impossible to create reliefs on the surface of its walls.
